Seniors Win Powder Puff

Seniors Win Powder Puff

Thomas County Central High School held its annual Powderpuff competition Thursday, Dec. 4.

The competition is the girls’ chance at playing football. Each class had its own team, and every team had its own football players that coached them.

The night’s event was set up by the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, or FCA, and coaches Bill Wilhelm and Chad Parkerson refereed the games.

“It was a fun thrill and I had a blast,” junior player Olivia Hightower said.

The first match was between the juniors and the freshmen, with a junior victory. Next, the sophomores faced the seniors, and the seniors beat them.

Then, the sophomores played the freshmen for the third place title. Finally, the juniors faced the seniors for the championship, and the seniors won by a touchdown made by their quarterback Megan Shepherd.

Senior player Logan Beever was psyched to win it all since it was her last chance at playing.

“It was great to come together with my fellow seniors and have that effort pay off with a win,” she said.

Junior Head Coach Mason Lawing felt that, win or lose, the game was a success.

“Powderpuff is a good experience for girls and is a good event that really unites the people within the classes,” Lawing said.

All the classes had a great time and that fun energy could be felt in the crowd, too.

“The atmosphere was of good sportsmanship and fun,” spectator Lauren Pearson said.
