TCCHS Door Decorating Contest

TCCHS Door Decorating Contest

Thomas County Central High School got into the Christmas spirit and made the halls look festive with its Christmas Door Decorating contest.

TCCHS principal Trista Jones announced the winners on Tuesday, Dec. 16. There were three judges who evaluated the decorated doors based on a scale of one to 10 for most creativity.

Mrs. Cindy Carnes won the contest and said she joined “to help everyone get in Christmas Spirit.”

She had help from the 16 kids in her first period Early Childhood Education class.

“Each student had a different job,” Carnes said. “We were able to work as a team to accomplish our goal. Our class is like a family and works very well together.”

The idea used for their door was related to theme of their program, children (children’s literature), and related to “The Night before Christmas.”

Mr. Justin Quigg was the contest’s runner-up. His second period math class came up with the idea of a Gingerbread House.

“I had several students work on the door after school last week,” Quigg said. “They came up with the idea themselves and ran with it. I just made sure they had the materials they needed and helped when they needed it. They are the real winners.”

There was a tie for third place; Mrs. Feraby Moye and Ms. Nicole Davis.

Moye said she entered this contest because, “I wanted to add some Christmas Spirit to our hall, school, and help make it look festive.”

Students in her second period class helped come up with ideas for her door.

“My students came up with it because they like ‘Frozen,’Moye said.

Davis entered the contest “to bring some festive cheer to the fine arts hall” and knew there were “some talented students who would rise to the challenge.”

She had assistance in designing and decorating her door from several students in her first period class as well as many others who showed up to help.

“Of course we wanted to incorporate music into our door theme,” Davis said. “Once we decided on sheet music as snowflakes and a ‘Frozen’ theme, one thing led to another. I am very pleased with the outcome of the door and the way the students came together to make it happen. I hope it helps spread holiday cheer as people walk down our hallway.”

Contest winners received a chicken biscuit breakfast Friday morning, the last day of school before winter break.  The contest was sponsored by the school store, The Nest.
