Positive encouragement and recognition for a job well done was given to students at Thomas County Central High School Friday.

Friday marked the handing out of report cards. The cards held grades for the second nine weeks and the first semester.

Principal Trista Jones announced to the school during third period (when the cards were given to students) that all students who received passing grades in their classes would be eligible to receive a treat during lunch. This treat was a lollipop that the school’s Frank Delaney, the current dean of students and former principal affectionately known as “Poppa D,” would present to the students once they’d shown him their report card.

The event was called “Pops from Pop.”

“We are very proud of all the students who maintain passing grades and discussed different ways to reward them at our leadership team meeting this summer,” said Jones.  “We thought this would be a great way to make a personal contact with each student and to encourage them to keep up the good work.”

Melissa Rogers, a TCCHS guidance counselor, sat with Delaney as he handed out treats and congratulated students.
