Harper named WBL Student of Month

Ephraim Harper, a Thomas County Central High School senior employed by Clanton-Malphus- Hodges Veterinary Hospital through the Work-Based Learning program, has been named the WBL Student of the Month for October 2015.

“Ephraim is very punctual and he gets along well with his coworkers and has a great sense of humor,” employer Dr. Beckey Malphus said. “He is very dependable and treats the clients and animals with respect. Ephraim is a great team player and never shies away from a long day of work.”

Work-Based Learning Coordinator Michelle Ausley said Harper “is always doing his best in all subject areas” along with his “duties and responsibilities in the workplace.”

“I knew the first time I met Ephraim he was going places,” Ausley, said. “He has demonstrated above and beyond exemplary responsibility, his assignments shine with excellence, and he is definitely fully self-motivated.”

Harper said, in his opinion, “the best way to learn something is with a hands-on approach” and he believes this WBL program “is a great opportunity that every student should take advantage of.”

“The Work-Based Learning program has allowed me to learn many important skills that will be very helpful in my future career,” he said. “After I graduate from TCCHS, I intend to enroll in college and peruse a career as a veterinary physician.”

Malphus also commends the WBL program. She said the veterinary hospital has utilized the program several times and currently employs a former WBL student, who has been with the hospital for more than 12 years.

“It is a very good program as a source of young workers with bright futures,” Malphus said.
