Phillips named WBL Student for November

Anna Phillips, a Thomas County Central High School senior employed by Senior Life Insurance through the Work-Based Learning program, has been named the WBL Student of the Month for November 2015.

“Anna is a model student by showing the uppermost confidence, motivation and positive attitude,” Work-Based Learning coordinator Michelle Ausley said.  “She is an extremely mature young lady who sets high standards for herself.”

Senior Life manager Chris Quick, her supervisor, says Phillips “has demonstrated core employability skills that are vital for the workplace.”

“Anna has a good work ethic, is punctual and reliable,” Quick said. “She completes her work in a timely and accurate manner. Anna is an asset to our organization because she has learned a variety of skills by working in various roles in a number of our departments. Her willingness to be flexible and tackle duties that are new and outside of her comfort zone have allowed her to expand her skills and become more valuable to the company.”

Quick also said Senior Life “views the WBL program as a wonderful tool for employers and students alike because it allows participants to contribute to organizational goals while gaining invaluable experience.”

Phillips has enjoyed participating in the WBL program for the past two years and said working for Senior Life has taught her essential skills.

“It (WBL) has given me the opportunity to see how my family has provided for me, along with giving me responsibilities to do the best I can,” she said. “Senior Life has taught me the essentials of a working life and I enjoy interacting with my co-workers and working together as a team.”
