TCCHS Key Club celebrates membership boost

Thomas County Central High School Key Club, during its January 2016 meeting, recognized new members and honored its participants for services rendered, thus far, this school year.

The club has approximately 20 new members this year and, during the meeting, each one received a membership card displaying the Key Club pledge on one side and membership information/name on the other. They also received an official Key Club International pin, along with a club membership handbook.

“I was excited to receive my membership into Key Club because I finally feel like I’m able to give back to my community,” senior Chelcie Nix said.

Greer Cox, a Thomasville Kiwanis Club member and TCCHS Key Club sponsor who attended the meeting, said it is “refreshing to see additional young adults eager to serve their community (by) volunteering through Key Club at TCCHS.”

TCCHS Key Club shirts, showcasing a new logo – yellow with black keys, were presented to members based upon participation in club events. So far, there have been numerous opportunities for members to earn shirts, including “Turkey Teacher” and the Kiwanis BBQ dinner held last fall. The vast majority of club members had earned their shirts prior to the meeting and received them; the few who had not have many opportunities before the end of the school year to do so.

“I love taking care of my community,” member Michaela Gandy said. “It isn’t too complicated to make sure everything is well cared for. Just a few simple things will make a big difference.”

Advisor Amy Ponder is excited about the increased membership in TCCHS Key Club and looks forward to the remaining service opportunities this school year.

"We look forward to exceeding prior years’ community service and extending our help to our city and county,” she said.
