TCCHS represented well at State science fair

Thomas County Central High School students represented their school well during a recent science competition.

The Georgia Science & Engineering Fair was held March 31-April 2 at the Classic Center in Athens. Two TCCHS students placed and one won a special scholarship.

Junior Jordan Bush won the University of Georgia Charter Scholarship worth $6,000 over four years.

“I am very proud to have received the UGA Charter Scholarship and it makes me super excited to see what my future holds,” she said.

Sophomore Hailey Ferrel placed third in Plant Sciences.

“This was my first time going to state and I’m proud that I placed my first time,” she said.

Sophomore C’lee Kornegay placed fourth in Earth and Environmental Sciences.

“It was an honor to be recognized at the state level,” she said. “I felt like all the hard work it took to get to that point was finally paid off.”

The following students participated in the competition: freshmen Kealie Bennett, Emily Mitchell, and Emily Owens; sophomores Faythe Choate, Hailey Ferrel, Desiree Hough, C’lee Kornegay, Hailey Newman, and Sierra Stephens; and juniors, Jordan Bush, Hannah Dixon, Anna Jense, and Tyler Williamson.

“One of our goals for participating in competitions is to give students a chance to meet other students from across the state,” TCCHS science teacher Laura Kornegay said. “These are the students they will be competing against for admission to college and for top scholarships. I am thrilled that we had so many students have the chance to participate in the state competition.”
