Girls Golf team wins region

Thomas County Central High School Golf team hosted the region match at Country Oaks Golf Course Monday, April 18. The girls’ team won the region championship and remained undefeated in dual matches. The boys’ team placed fourth in the region match. “Winning region in golf was an amazing feeling and now we get to go on to the next level and compete for the state title,” golfer Maddie Carson said. Both teams had a good season and a few individual players are playing great right now, Coach Sam Holland said. Anyone who wanted to play golf could participate. There are eight boys and four girls on the team. They practice at Country Oaks after school each day. Holland said his favorite part of coaching is, “to work with the men and women to see them get better every day.” The girls will go on to compete for the state title in Waynesboro on May 16. The region match was the last match of the season for the boys’ team. “This season was full of fun, highs and lows, and a lot of golf,” senior golfer Ryan Walters said. “The past four years have given me memories I truly won’t ever forget. It’s been a fun experience.”
