TCCHS students, teachers take part in SAT workshop

There was a Cambridge Educational Services SAT workshop hosted by Thomas County Central High School on April 19-20.

The workshop for teachers, held April 20, was to receive SAT training provided by Cambridge Educational Services. They gave instructions on the new SAT components and improving test scores.

"The goal is to improve your SAT score through teaching solid test-taking techniques, identifying high-value targets, and powerful test-taking strategies,” Dr. James Rehberg, assistant principal said.

TCCHS selected a small cross-section of students to take the workshop on April 19. Priority was given to students taking the May 7 or June 4 SAT, students close to qualifying for the Zell Miller scholarship, and students posting high-percentile scores on the PSAT given last fall.

"It feels like I have potential for huge success on the SAT,” Brendan Brock, a junior selected for the program, said.

Brock says that the program is helping him feel more prepared for the SAT.

"There are so many strategies and simple things that make me feel like I could pass if I took the test now," he said.

TCCHS will host its own version of the workshop next fall. Teachers will incorporate the new components into their SAT prep lessons and those who attended this workshop will be available to help students who take part in the school’s workshops before each test and as a resource to any student who wants help with test taking strategies, Rehberg explains.

"TCCHS is committed to offering every opportunity and advantage to our students,” he said. “We constantly look for programs to enhance your educational experience. We want you to be as academically competitive against students across our region, state, and nation as you can be. The better prepared you are, the more apt you are to experience success and achieve your goals.”
