TCCHS students pep up the school for old rivalry

The rivalry between Thomasville High School and Thomas County Central High School came to a head on Aug. 26. However, in preparation for the big game, TCCHS held a few days of events full of school spirit.

Wednesday and Thursday saw the decorative painting of classroom windows. Thursday and Friday also brought the painting of student and faculty car windows.

Windows were decorated with such phrases as “Go Jackets Go!” and “Fight Jackets Fight!,” both of which come from the team’s fight song as well as other phrases meant to encourage the team and students to get “hyped” for the game. Other painted illustrations included footballs and goal posts as well as the Yellow Jacket mascot Buzz.

Thursday and Friday were full of car window painting; tasks tackled by both broadcasting students and cheerleaders. Windows were painted with sayings like “Honk for Jackets!” and “Jackets on Top!”

Not only were the windows displaying Jacket Pride, but so were the students themselves!

Friday during lunches broadcasting students held face painting stations in the cafeteria. Many students asked for simple dots of blue and gold and white, while others had war-paint stripes adorning their cheeks.

Face paint wasn’t the only thing occurring during lunch. The school’s band made a special appearance and pepped up the students with multiple song performances, accompanied by Buzz.

Students were extremely excited about the events. “They boost everyone’s energy for the game,” senior Jensey Humphries said. “That way everyone can get into it and get pumped.”

Other than getting everyone hyped, school spirit “shows solidarity” junior Kyle Clark said. He went on to say that “doing things like this really helps unify the school under one flag, the flag of the Yellow Jackets.”

Other students shared this ideal. Senior Steven Tran said that “having something to rally behind really helps people to support their team in the game.”
The Yellow Jackets finished the game with a 16-14 score over the THS Bulldogs.
