TCCHS has a Shakespearean experience

Theater masks

Story by student reporter Caitlyn Atkinson

Recently, students from Thomas County Central High School’s English classes had the opportunity to go to the Thomasville Center for the Arts to see a rendition of Shakespeare’s “Romeo and Juliet.” I was one of those students and personally was very excited to see a different rendition of a very popular play.

The overall play was very well executed. I could tell countless hours were spent to perfect the play and the actors very much enjoyed what they were doing. The writing of the play was still in Shakespeare’s tone, so it sometimes could be hard to understand, but the actions of the characters shined through any confusion I had. They truly told the story through their actions, and it was a joy to watch them bring to life a classic.

The play in its entirety was very entertaining to watch. Many times during the play, I jumped due to the drastic changes of the tone of voice that the actors used. If a character was mad, you could tell just from the volume of the voice. This applied to every emotion that any character had.

I am more of a visual learner, so reading things sometimes confuses me because I cannot picture the story in my mind. This play helped me actually see the words that I am going to read (in class), which will better help me understand the story.
