Brentley Odom has been selected to serve as teh Area 5 Treasurer for 2017-2018 in Future Farmers of America.

A Thomas County Central High School Future Farmers of America chapter member has earned a position on the organization’s area board.

Brentley Odom, a rising senior, has been selected to serve as the 2017-2018 Area 5 Treasurer. The announcement was made May 15 during the Georgia FFA Area 5 awards ceremony at Abraham Baldwin Agricultural College.

“I have a passion for this organization and want to serve at all levels,” Odom said.

Officer position is based upon a point system by the highest score, he explained.

“The highest position goes to the highest score,” he said. “The test is 50 percent, application is 20 percent and voting is 30 percent. I was fourth-highest so therefore I was the fourth position.”

The TCCHS FFA chapter is part of the Georgia FFA Association and the National FFA Organization. FFA’s mission is to help students develop their potential for leadership, personal growth and career success through their agricultural education.

Throughout the year, Odom and his fellow officers will represent their area, which includes more than 12,000 members in the South Region, according to the announcement press release. They will attend various meetings, career development events, conferences and training activities. This includes helping to plan and conduct the annual South Region Leadership Rally and leading their respective area’s banquet and award ceremony.

“We are very proud of Brentley and look forward to the opportunity he has to serve as an Area 5 FFA officer,” TCCHS FFA advisor Ward Cole said.

Odom is “thrilled and so excited” to be an area officer.

“I love being able to be part of the group that make some of the decisions that will affect the whole area,” he said. “Some general goals for the office that I feel are important is to always have a positive impact on the officers as well as the members of the amazing Area 5 FFA. Another goal for me would be to help contribute ideas to boost our FFA involvement in the region and to keep the students active, as well as the advisors.”
