TCCHS receives Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award for consecutive years

Kyle Henderson of Grady EMC presents the sportsmanship award to principal Trista Jones.

Thomas County Central High School was awarded the 2016-17 Sportsmanship award during the Jackets region football game against Warner Robins.  This award program honors schools that exhibit exemplary sportsmanship during competitive events and is sponsored by Georgia’s Electric Membership Corporations.

Introduced in 2006, the Cooperative Spirit Sportsmanship Award program reinforces GHSA’s philosophy which states: “Student athletes, coaches, spectators, and all others associated with high school activity programs should adhere to the fundamental values of respect, fairness, honesty and responsibility.”

Only one school in each division within each region is chosen to receive this annual award. The GHSA takes into consideration all aspects of sportsmanship during events—student athletes on the field as well as fellow students, school staff, parents and game spectators, making the award a tribute to the entire community.

Kyle Henderson, assistant member services of Grady EMC presented the award to TCCHS Principal Trista Jones and Superintendent Dusty Kornegay.  Athletic Director Sam Holland was grateful for the recognition. “What an honor it is to receive this award, especially since it's the second year in a row. To me it means that schools across the state respect the tremendous job our coaches and players are doing both on and off the field of play. This award goes to show the quality of people we have here at Thomas County Central!”
