Jackie Robinson Essay Contest

Congratulations to sixth grade student  Brentson Moncrief for winning first place in the 14th annual Jackie Robinson Essay Contest and receiving a $100 prize. Honorable mentions were awarded to Kaleigh Fender, Bhumin Patel, Joshua Williamson, Reid Harvey, and Brennan Hart.

This year sixth graders were challenged to write 300 words about how Jackie Robinson has made a difference in their life.

Robinson, born in Grady County in 1919, broke Major League Baseball’s color barrier when he debuted with the Brooklyn Dodgers in 1947. The essay contest is designed to commemorate his legacy as a civil rights pioneer.
