De’Markus Presley, a 6th grade student at Thomas County Upper Elementary, defeated students in grades 5-8 to become the winner of the TCUE/TCMS spelling bee. Alex Thornton, 5th grade student, was named the runner-up. De’Markus spelled the word “oncologist” correctly in order to be crowned the winner. He will compete at the county-wide spelling bee in January.
