Students are 'Blasting off into Outer Space'

Students in Ms. Marcinski's sixth-grade science classes are 'Blasting off into Outer Space!' Students were recently involved in a hands-on learning experience where they created models as they learned about the different sizes of the planets in our solar system. During this demonstration the students had the opportunity to experience a fun, tangible illustration where they created and compared models of each planet.

In a follow-up lesson, students were able to 'visit space' and interact with the planets and even a comet or two. The students were able to build a comet, known as the 'dirty snowballs' of space. They  used dry ice, glitter (representing dust), and soil to build the comets. After the comets were built, students applied heat which simulates what a comet looks like when it is near our sun.

Pictured below is 'Dr. Gatlin Majors' as she is comparing the size of each planet.
