Students and Teachers Enjoy Driftwood Trip

Driftwood

Students from the 6th grade MERIT team attended Driftwood Education Center on Jekyll Island, Georgia from May 1-3. At Driftwood, teachers and students alike stepped out of their normal roles and saw each other in a different perspective. As students lived together for two and a half days, sharing cabin space and exciting adventures, a sense of community developed between them. Students made new friends and learned new things about themselves at the same time. In addition, teachers were included in this new circle of friends. By eating together at dinner, singing together at campfire, and helping each other learn, the students were able to see their teachers as a normal, everyday person as well as a role model. The bond that formed between the teachers and students, and amongst the students at Driftwood is a bond that will last far beyond the end of the school year.
