Name- Jenny Holt
How many years have you been teaching or worked in education?
This is my 10th year. All have been here in 1st grade at Garrison-Pilcher.
What college did you attend?
Valdosta State University and Thomas University
My best day in the classroom was when....
I got my job! I was working as a paraprofessional for pod A. Mrs. Judy Dorris came in one Friday and said, “I have a job for you and it starts on Monday.”
Who or what inspired you to become a teacher or to work in education? Marty Prine – My 2nd grade teacher. It was also Mrs. Walter, my 10th grade Biology teacher.
What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt?
I would love to own a cupcakery. I absolutely LOVE to bake and I can make a mean cupcake if I say so myself!
What do you enjoy doing in your spare time?
Zumba. I got certified to teach this summer and have been subbing. I have my Zumbatomic certification and will hopefully start teaching at the Y in the afternoons. Zumbatomic is Zumba for kids. My class & I do this for movement breaks or during rainy day recess & they love it too!
What is one thing about you that likely would surprise your students?
This one is hard… I am pretty open and honest with my kids. Maybe that I’m afraid of bad weather… I also hate the dark (I sleep with my TV on – yes I’m a big baby). They love to find out that I am married to a bug man.
What else would you like to share about yourself or your profession?
I have a great husband and 2 sweet girls. I am on my way to being ESOL certified & there is a special place in my heart for teaching ESOL students.
