School Council Elections

Dear Parents:
As part of House Bill 1187, every school must form a school council consisting of the school principal, two parents, two business parents (elected by parents), and two teachers (elected by teachers). Councils will meet four times a year at the school and will serve in an advisory capacity. Training is usually conducted in October.
Qualifications to serve as a parent representative:
1)      Must be 18 years of age or older;
2)      Must have a child enrolled in the school during the 2012-13 school year; and
3)      Must be willing to serve two complete years

Qualifications to serve as a business parent representative:
Same as above, however, the parent must also be a business person.
Note:
A. An employee of the school system may serve as a parent representative on the council of a school in which his or her child is enrolled if the employee works at a different school or at the county office.
B. While terms of office are for two years, if a child is in attendance at the school for only one year, the parent/guardian of the child enrolled in the school are eligible to vote and hold office for that one year.
C. School board members are disqualified from serving on school councils but are allowed to vote as a parent from an electing body.
D. The qualifying person may serve on only one school council in the system in any given year.
E. Each parent or legal guardian will be allowed one vote for the parent representative on the school council regardless of the number of children enrolled in the school.
The following positions are available:

If you are interested in serving on the school council at Garrison-Pilcher Elementary, contact (Sharonda Wilson-Principal or Richard Potter-Assistant Principal) no later than Friday, September 7, 2012 and express your intent. You will need to inform the school if you are interested.
