Principal's Message

The goal of Pathways Educational Program is to assist local school systems in educating students with severe emotional and behavioral disorders or autism which they have been unable to serve effectively. In addition, it is a priority to help these students return to their home school’s classroom with the skills necessary to become successful students and functioning members of our society.


Pathways Educational Program operates on the assumption students should be educated in their home schools and in the least restrictive environment possible.  This program accepts only those students who have not responded positively to any of the specialized settings provided by the individual school systems and returns these students to their home schools as soon as they are able to function in that environment.


The primary emphasis at Pathways Educational Program is providing each child with the emotional/psychological support and social skills necessary for them to be able to return to their home schools as quickly as possible.


While the student is learning to deal appropriately with himself and with those in his immediate environment, academics are taught as an integral part of the overall therapeutic program.  Pathways’ teachers utilize research-based instructional strategies that align with the Georgia Performance Standards.  Students will participate in standardized testing as they would in the regular education setting. 


Many students with disabilities have more than one condition that will influence the ability to function in the school and community.  It is the responsibility of Pathways Educational Program to serve any student whose primary disability is a result of emotional issues or autism and who is determined by the IEP committee to need a more restrictive environment than can be provided in the regular school.  Every effort is made to develop a plan that will help meet the needs of students in any area that prevents successful performance in school and which could hinder post-school functioning.


Working with students who bring many emotional issues with them to the classroom creates a stressful situation for staff.  Pathways Educational Program desires to provide a collegial, supportive, nurturing environment for all staff so that they may function at their optimum professional level and do the best job possible with students.
