In order to make fine arts opportunities more accessible to students, the Thomas County School System has launched an initiative to offer afternoon music, art, and dance lessons to students in grades K-8. The lessons will be coupled with supervised study time to provide working parents flexibility in their schedules.
Lessons will be available on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays. Students participating in the afternoon arts program will be provided an afterschool snack and will have the opportunity to study or use computers in the Thomas County Middle School Media Center until 5:30 p.m. on any afternoon they are taking a lesson. Parents may pick their children up immediately after their lesson is complete, or the children may stay in the supervised middle school media center until checked out by their parents.
Transportation and the lack of after school child care are often barriers for parents who would otherwise like for their children to participate in music, art, or dance lessons. To address this issue, the school system is providing transportation to Thomas County Middle School for all K-4 students on the days of their lessons and supervision in the school media center after their lessons conclude until 5:30 p.m. While in the media center, students may use computers, read, complete homework, or play quiet board games. All students must be picked up by 5:30 p.m.
Music lessons are provided by the Thomasville Music Academy. Dance lessons are provided by the Dance Academy. Thomas County art teachers are providing art lessons. Separate flyers are attached for each of the three types of lessons. Registration for music lessons should be made with the Thomasville Music Academy. Registration for dance lessons should be made with the Dance Academy. Parents may register their children for art lessons at their child’s school or on-line. See the link below to register online for art lessons.
The Thomas County School System is also offering bus transportation to the Thomasville Center for the Arts each afternoon for students who enroll in classes there.
