MERIT Parent Information

Welcome to a new school year! Prepare to become a historian and a Social Studies detective. No mass memorization of facts in this classroom. We will investigate and discuss why these are the facts. I am a firm believer in students learning for themselves rather than a teacher just "telling it" to them. Seventh graders are "pretty smart cookies"! I'm excited about the things we will be doing together this year.

I am a graduate of Union University with a Bachelors of Arts, Nova Southeastern University with a Masters in Education and certification in Gifted Education. This will be my 16th year teaching 7th grade Social Studies. In the past, I have also worked in 8th and 6th grades. It is my hope that your student will be inspired to find his/her own place in history this year.

Our curriculum this year takes us to Southwest Asia, Africa, and South/East Asia. However, we will also learn about our own history and government as it parallels with our curriculum. A generation of leaders must understand their own country and history to be productive leaders of a global society.

The heart of our daily class activity is found in your student's Google Classroom. You will find all current lessons, assignments, study helps, etc. there. Please, have your student show you their Google Classroom.
