"The Shadow Box"

The Thomas County Central High School Drama Department presented “The Shadow Box,” a Pulitzer Prize winning play by Michael Cristofer, on Sept. 26-27 at the Thomas County Board of Education Auditorium.

The play will be presented again 6 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 15, at Thomasville Arts Center and is free to the public.

The play is a drama that takes place over a 24-hour period and details the ups and downs between three hospice cabins where families are dealing with acceptance of the imminent death of one of their members. They work their way to the understanding that what matters most is the here and now, this moment with their loved ones.

Randi Dupree, a student with the department, worked behind the scenes doing tech work.

“It’s delightfully depressing in the most amazing way,” Dupree said of the play.

J Cary Riggs is the director of the piece and Joshua Mimbs serves as Tech Director.

Students from various departments contributed to the play, either on stage or behind the curtain.

“This particular play gives the opportunity to a diverse range of students and allows for them to get a feel for the stage,” Riggs said.

The play will also be presented as Thomas County's entry in Regional One Act Competition on Oct. 23 at Cairo High School.
