Students Attend All-A Luncheon

Thomas County Central High School students who made all A’s for the third nine weeks of the school year were rewarded for their good grades with a special lunch trip.

Thirty-two students attended the last All-A Luncheon of the year on Friday, April 17. They had the option of eating at local restaurants Longhorn, Zaxby’s, Whataburger, IHOP, or El Paso.

Dr. Jim Rehberg, director of gifted & accelerated instruction at TCCHS, is a regular luncheon chaperone. He thinks the luncheon is a “nice recognition” for those who work hard to make good grades.

“I think it is a good incentive for those students who are willing to put in time and effort to achieve their goals,” he said. “This way, they are not only rewarded by just a seal that says ‘All A’s’ on their report card, but they get a little something extra, too.”

Senior Tessa McCorkle, an All-A Luncheon veteran, thinks it is a successful event.

“It’s a great way to be rewarded for exceptional work in the classroom,” she said. “The All-A Luncheon program is a fantastic way to encourage students academically.”

Students went in groups to the various establishments to relax and eat good food, and then visited a local park. The event served as a bit of a breather between finals and AP exams coming up for these students, and they were happy to receive it.

“I really enjoyed eating at IHOP, then going and hanging out with my friends at the park,” Shelby Mitchell, a senior, said.

Mason Lawing, a junior, had similar views on the luncheon and said it marked the end of an era.

“It was fun,” he said. “I got to eat a good lunch, then relax at the park with my friends. This lunch was especially recognizable because it was the end of an era. My friend Logan Potter has attended every All-A lunch since his freshman year, and the fact that he made it every time every year makes him the All-A Lunch King.”
