Boys quartet places at GHSA State Literacy Competition

Students in the Thomas County Central High School Chorale program recently participated in the Georgia High School Association State Literary Competition.

Zion Jackson, Logan Leik, Matthew Edmonds, and Marc Rountree placed fourth in Boys Quartet during the event, held March 12.

“I was proud that we placed,” member Zion Jackson said. “There were a lot of good groups.”

Member Matthew Edmonds is “proud that we got that far” and member Marc Rountree felt “our placement was perfectly valid, they judged well.”

The quartet sang two songs, “Donkey Riding” and “Maid of Llanwellyn.”

Member Logan Leik, who sang bass, is in chorus because he felt it would expand his knowledge of music and because he enjoys “being able to express myself through singing.”

Edmonds, who sang tenor II, says chorus has helped him “get out of my shell” and to sing better and “feel confident on stage.”

“Singing makes me feel good, the songs that we sing are really fun and emotional,” he said. “It just activates your feelings and makes you feel good about yourself.”

TCCHS Chorale teacher Nicole Davis said competitions like this one allow students “to expand their perspective of music performance,” as well as “affirms their hard work and establishes future goals for their performance.”

“I am extremely proud of all the students who competed,” Davis said. “It was our first time at state and I know the students felt the importance of the moment and appreciated the opportunity.”
