Green attends Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders

Thomas County Central High School student Baily Green recently attended the Congress of Future Science and Technology Leaders. The congress, held in Boston this June, brought some of the most prestigious current minds in science and technology together with some of their fields’ most promising students.

“Going to the conference opened me up to new ideas and concepts,” Green said.

Green, 16 and a junior, is interested in a career in computer science/engineering.

“Computer science is kind of like an art,” he said. “Anything you put your mind to you can achieve.”

His participation in the congress has aided Green in selecting his career path and has taught him an important lesson.

“After seeing how much freedom you have, I was inspired to make and build like the speakers did,” he said. “The speakers talked about how before they succeeded they had lots and lots of failures. The lesson I learned was to learn from failure rather than quit.”

Green’s favorite part of the congress is seeing inventions by the company Boston Dynamics. He calls the experience “amazing.”

“The robots were shown on national television and I got to see it in real life,” he said.

TCCHS received Green’s Award of Excellence for successfully completing the congress, which Principal Trista Jones presented to him Thursday, Sept. 15.

“Baily was a perfect fit for this program,” Jones said. “He is very bright, loves working with computers, and has wonderful leadership qualities. He has shown great enthusiasm for the congress and what he learned through his experiences there.”
