Thomas County Central High School Environmental Ambassadors celebrated America Recycles Day Thursday, Nov. 15. Two activities were chosen to help encourage recycling: a student created poster contest and the selling of America Recycles Day T-shirts.

For the poster contest, student submissions had to be easy to read and could be created in any of multiple media, such as watercolor, crayon or markers. They could also incorporate a variety of recyclable materials if they were so inclined. The deadline was Nov. 9, and judging took place Nov. 13. The first place winner in the poster contest was Kruti Patel, who earned a $50 prize, followed by Emma Goff in second with $30 and Kariana Colon in third, receiving $20 in prize money. Honorable mention went to Izabelle Fulgencio.

TCCHS Environmental Ambassadors completed a fundraiser to purchase special America Recycles Day T-shirts and temporary tattoos. The shirts were sold to faculty and staff at a reduced price. Students who signed the YES pledge to recycle were entered into a drawing for free T-shirts. Adults who bought and students who won T-shirts proudly wore them Thursday to mark the day’s significance. The free recycle temporary tattoos were also handed out throughout the day.
