TCCHS holds SWAYJ event

SWAYJ decorations

The halls came alive with the sounds of Christmas cheer as Thomas County Central High School held its annual Shop with A Yellow Jacket service event, Saturday, Dec. 11. Better known as SWAYJ, it’s an opportunity for the school and, most importantly, its students to give back to their community. The school decorates its cafeteria—where the event takes place on campus—and hallway(s) leading to it in a festive theme. This year’s was “A County Christmas,” which reflected the holiday styles someone might see if they drove throughout Thomas County. Approximately 80 teams of high school students each took an especially deserving younger pupil from Hand-In-Hand Primary School, Garrison-Pilcher Elementary School, or Cross Creek Elementary School Christmas shopping at Walmart. Groups raised $100 each and acted as Santa’s elves, helping their young charges select Christmas gifts for their families and something special for themselves. Then, they returned to TCCHS, where they wrapped their presents.
