TCCHS Masquers receive championship rings

TC Masquers One Act team members show off their state championship rings.

Thomas County Central High School’s TC Masquers One Act team members celebrated their state competition win with the presentation of championship rings Thursday, April 28. The group claimed a piece of TCCHS history when its “A Piece of My Heart” production won the Georgia High School Association State One Act 4-A title in November 2021. The school’s one-act production advanced to state two previous times – 2003 and 2020 – but this is the first year TCCHS won a state competition.

Each gold ring features a yellow jacket emblem atop a blue stone with the words “state championship” around the stone. One side has each student’s last name with a drama mask; the other has a Georgia state icon, “#1” and the winning year. The student’s first and last name and the production title are engraved upon the ring’s inner band.

The play, written by Shirley Lauro, centers on the experiences of four Vietnam War nurses/American Red Cross members who, through witnessing triumphs and tragedies on both sides, gain self-actualization. And after returning home, each woman pays an homage to the war that changed her forever.
