The Incredible Journey of the Water Cycle

Students in Ms. Marcinski's sixth-grade science class are off on another adventure! Titan Company students recently used a cross-curriculum approach for learning about the water cycle. Students first "became" water molecules as they simulated movement of water through the water cycle.

Prior to this activity, students learned that heat energy directly influences the water cycle through changes in the state of matter. In this engaging activity, students divided up to begin at various starting points and then the fun began! Each student rolled a dice and then matched the number to the corresponding station that they were to move to, showing that water can move through the water cycle in multiple ways. During this activity, students learned key vocabulary terms as well as how water moves on the Earth.

Students deconstructed their own misconceptions that water doesn't always complete a full cycle by learning that water can follow a multitude of pathways. Following this activity, students were able to use their prior knowledge from Mrs. Walker's ELA class on narrative writing to write meaningful narratives about their journey through the water cycle!
