Nine TCMS students make Region Honor Band

TCMS Region Honor Band

Thomas County Middle School band students recently participated in the South Georgia Region Honor Band Clinic which took place April 13 - 15, 2023, at Valdosta State University. Dr. Andrew Poor from South Forsyth Middle School was the guest clinician for the middle school honor band. The clinic culminated in a public concert performance in VSU’s Whitehead Auditorium on April 15.

TCMS had a total of nine students to make RHB, including two first chair placements. Thomas County Middle School was one of 25 middle schools from South Georgia represented in the Region Honor Band, one of the most prestigious band events in the state of Georgia, this year.

A total of 615 middle school band students from GMEA Districts 2, 8, and 11 (South Georgia schools located south of Macon) competed for chairs in the Region Honor Band where there are 100 chairs available. In order to make RHB, students must pass the first round audition (consisting of scales, an etude, and sight-reading) with a minimum score. The second round audition consists of a lyrical etude and a quick study etude. Students are assigned chair placement based on the second-round audition.
