Erin Rehberg, Digital Learning Coordinator for Thomas County Schools, has been awarded the Flanders Scholarship which is given annually to a member of the Georgia Association of Curriculum and Instructional Supervisors (GACIS) who is pursuing a higher degree in the area of Educational Leadership. Rehberg is in the process of completing her doctoral degree at Valdosta State University and will use the funds to pay expenses incurred for tuition and books.
Rehberg was nominated by Thomas County’s GACIS district and was chosen by the Flanders Scholarship Committee. The award was presented to Rehberg during the recent GACIS fall conference.
"It was an honor to receive the Flanders Scholarship from GACIS, but it is an even bigger honor to work for the Thomas County School System,” Rehberg said. “I am always incredibly proud to be a part of a fantastic team of educators who work hard to make sure the students in Thomas County receive a world-class education."
Beginning her educational career as a high school English teacher with the Thomas County School System, Rehberg has worked as a media specialist and most recently serves as the system’s digital learning coordinator.
Thomas County Schools Superintendent Dr. Lisa Williams recommended Rehberg for the scholarship.
“Erin possesses a self-motivated drive to succeed at anything she desires,” Dr. Williams said. “She is a phenomenal visionary leader and is a true benefit to our system. She will continue to play a significant role in the system-level administrative team, and I personally cannot wait to see how high she will help our system soar.”
As Digital Learning and Media Services Coordinator, Rehberg has led the full integration of technology into the PreK-12 curriculum in the Thomas County system and has overseen the implementation of one-to-one technology to transform learning. She has also led the implementation of a K-12 computer coding initiative that is one of a kind in rural Georgia.
Thomas County Superintendent Emeritus Dr. Dusty Kornegay promoted Rehberg to a district-level leadership position during his tenure as superintendent. He also recommended her for the Flanders Scholarship.
“Under her leadership, the Thomas County School System has implemented a K-12 coding initiative that is the envy of many other rural school districts,” Dr. Kornegay said. “Erin regularly hosts visitors from other school systems who are eager to learn about our one-to-one technology initiative, our use of Google classroom, and our coding initiative. Her willingness to share with others is spreading the impact of her leadership beyond the boundaries of our district throughout our region and across the state. Erin will be a great ambassador for the Flanders Scholarship Program.”
The Flanders Scholarship was established in 1995 to honor Dr. Robert Flanders who was the GACIS treasurer from 1970 to 1995. During these years, he was an outstanding steward of the organization's money.
