“WH” Questions
When practicing “wh” questions make sure the student understands what the question is asking. It may be helpful to review.
“What” = thing or action
“Who” = person or character
“When” = time (clock time, calendar time, time of day, before or after another event)
“Where”=place
“Why”= reason
A good time to practice “wh” questions is at the end of the day.
-What did you do today?
-When did you eat breakfast?
-Who did you talk to on the phone?
-Where do you put your dirty clothes?
-Why do we need to take a bath?
Another great time to practice “wh” questions is while reading with your child. Every couple of pages stop and ask questions or talk about the book.
-What happened
-Where it takes place (setting)
-Who is in the book (characters)
-When something takes place-timeline of events
-Why-relating to problems in the story.
Feel free to just target 1 “wh” question at a time.
