Course Description:

Welcome to 5th Grade Fitness Class! The purpose of this course is to teach a wide range of exercises and exercise theory to achieve a wide variety of fitness goals. We will use these exercises and knowledge on a daily basis to improve our personal fitness. Be prepared to learn and work hard every single day. You will be exhausted, you will be sore, and you will become more physically fit as a result of the hard work you will do in this class.  P.E. is generally fun, but this class is real work.  In addition to learning exercises and exercise theory, you will learn about goal setting, major muscle groups, stretching, injury prevention, nutrition, and how to continue your fitness activities after and beyond this class. We will use the following techniques (as well as others) to improve fitness:

Jacket Boot Camp• Strength training • Core Exercises • Running • Circuit Training•

Grading:

Each student must bring athletic shoes and participate in order to earn points for a daily grade, Monday through Friday.  Students must bring dress athletic shoes to earn participation  points.  Students will receive 20 points for each day that they participate.  If a student does not bring athletic shoes or participate for the day, they will lose those full credit points.  Example: If a student brings athletic shoes only 2 days in any given week his/her participation grade for the week is 40, 3 days=60, 4 days=80, and 5 days=100.  Each student will be allowed one written excuse from a parent with no penalty.  To avoid being penalized after the first excuse, students are asked to bring an excuse from a doctor.  Also, if students are off task, they will lose half credit for the day.
