TCCHS Dance Team

2023-2024 Guidelines

  1. Organization
    1. This Constitution has been written and adopted for the TCCHS Dance Team
    2. The purpose of the TCCHS Dance Club is to:
      1. Create school spirit, pride, and leadership.
      2. Promote interest in school activities, perform at school functions, local events, and to bring joy to our community.
      3. Develop responsibility, teach self-respect, encourage honest effort, strive for perfection, and develop character.
      4. Teach teamwork and pride in a quality performance through maintaining high standards.
  2. Eligibility
    1. Every dancer will maintain or improve their academic standing while associated with the TCCHS Dance Team.  Academics are the number one commitment.  If a dancer is not disciplined or dedicated in the classroom, then they will not be disciplined or dedicated enough to contribute positively to the team.  Grades will be checked regularly and teachers frequently contacted to discuss progress in the classroom.
    2. Any referral/write up will disqualify dancers from being eligible for the team.
    3. A dancer must agree to purchase many of her/his own uniforms, uniform accessories, and attend the summer dance intensive.  Please see attached Expenses sheet.
    4. Each candidate will be judged on technique, ability, presentation, energy, sharpness, and judge’s overall impression at the try-out.
    5. All candidates must have a positive attitude at try-outs and at all other times.  This should enable the candidates trying out to acquire the skills to perform the routines to the best of their abilities.
    6. Each candidate must perform the dance routine that will be taught through a video and meet any other requirements deemed necessary for try-out by the coach.  Judges will evaluate all candidates and score accordingly.  Judges are selected by the coach so that all scores will be accurate and unbiased.

  1. Rules and Regulations
    1. Practices and Performances
      1. All practices and performances are mandatory.  Members are responsible for their own transportation to and from all practices and performances unless bus transportation is provided (if bus transportation is provided, all club members MUST ride the bus to and from the performance).
      2. Practices will be held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 3:30pm – 5:00pm for Gold team and Thursdays from 3:30pm – 5:00pm for Blue team. (Extra practices will be scheduled with one week’s notice).
      3. Dancers must be stretched and ready to begin practice by 3:30pm.  This means arrival needs to be at least five minutes early in order to have time to stretch.  A dancer will not be allowed to begin practice until he/she has stretched.
      4. You must report to all practices, performances, and/or other designated events/meetings ON TIME.  For every tardy/late arrival, you will be marked as unexcused. After three tardies, dancers will be dismissed from the ensemble.
      5. No jewelry, with the exception of assigned jewelry pieces, are to be worn during performances or events.
      6. A calendar will be handed out at the beginning of each month so that conflicts in scheduling are eliminated.  Every attempt should be made to schedule appointments around these practices.
      7. All members must come dressed for practice in appropriate attire, including footwear.  NO revealing tops or shorts are allowed outside of the practice area.  Dancers are NOT allowed to wear just a sports bra or shorts.  If you come to practice inappropriately dressed, you will be dismissed from practice and given an unexcused absence.
      8. No visitors during any practice session unless given permission PRIOR by the coach.
    2. Behavior at Practices/Performances
      1. Disrespect to the coach will not be tolerated.
      2. Disrespect to the team and/or any individual club member may result in a suspension, depending on the seriousness of the offense.  A conference with the coach will follow.
      3. All problems must be brought to the coach first.  Part of being on the dance team is responsibility.  If there are issues or concerns, the coach should be the number one person to know.  This rule applies to parents/guardians as well.  The coach will gladly schedule a meeting (not during a practice) to address any parental concerns or otherwise.
      4. When at a performance all team members are required to sit in a designated area.  Dance Team members may not leave the seating area to talk with friends during our designated rehearsal time unless given permission by the coach.  The dancers will stay at all events until the end
    3. Grade Requirements
      1. It is the dancer’s priority to be a student first and athlete second.  Dancers that receive a 69 or below semester grade will be dismissed from the ensemble.
    4. Absences
      1. All absences and tardiness from practices, performances, or other designated meetings must be approved by the coach PRIOR (dancer must give at least 1 week notice) to the practice or performance.  Illness (with doctor’s note) and family emergencies are the ONLY excusable absence/tardy.  You must have a note verifying each absence, signed by your parent/guardian.  More than three unexcused absences from ensemble events will result in dismissal from the team.
      2. If you get injured during the season and well enough to attend school, you are still required to be at practice doing whatever you can to learn the routines, stay in shape, and in the proper mind-set to return.
    5. In-School/Out of School Suspensions
      1. Anyone receiving in-school/out of school suspension will be dismissed from the team.
    6. Uniforms
      1.    ANY UNIFORM PIECE THAT BECOMES DAMAGED, LOST, OR STOLEN WHILE ASSIGNED TO AN INDIVIDUAL DANCE TEAM MEMBER MUST BE PAID IN FULL BY THAT TEAM MEMBER IMMEDIATELY, SO A REPLACEMENT CAN BE ISSUED.
    7. E-mails
      1. All dance team e-mails must be cleared by the coach before they are sent out.
    8. Newspaper Articles
      1. If applicable, the coach is responsible for all articles placed in the newspapers.  NO ONE should be sending in newspaper requests.
