Vocabulary.com/ Pizza Hut's BOOK IT Program

Yellow Jacket Reading

On October 1, 2017, Thomas County Middle School students began two national events, Vocabulary.com and Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT! Thomas County Middle School has been competing in Vocabulary.com since the 2015. The first year, students mastered 6,208 words. Last year, students showed a huge increase, mastering 33,575 words. This year we are looking forward to shattering the previous records while continuing to compete with high schools and middle schools in the United States and Canada. In addition to the regular competition groups, TCMS welcomes two MASTER Groups to this year’s challenge. These groups are composed of veteran 7th and 8th grade students who were the 'best in their class' over the years. The overall winner for Vocabulary.com will receive a trophy, banner, and 100 medals will be awarded for the top performing students. Together, we are aiming for our highest vocabulary mastery numbers ever.

Moreover, we also launched Pizza Hut’s BOOK IT Program for our 5th and 6th grade students. BOOK IT allows students to be rewarded for successfully completing reading activities. Students will be rewarded at the end of each month with a FREE personal pan pizza from Pizza Hut. In addition, students who successfully complete the entire program will have their names entered into a drawing to win a $10,000 college scholarship! We are excited to provide these rewarding opportunities to our students and look forward to many more in the future.

Students are eager to get started on these two exciting programs.  Pictured below from left to right are:  Nevan Wickham, Jayden Brooks, Terrance Davis, Jahmai Greene, Emma Nicoll, and Ka'Mya Garland.
