Substitute Information

We are currently accepting substitute applications. If you are interested in applying for a substitute position, you must pick up a Substitute Packet from the Thomas County Board Office. You do not need to complete an on-line application if you are only interested in substituting.  Click here to obtain basic information about substituting in the Thomas County School System. This basic information includes the types of substitute positions available, what is needed for each position, and pay information. All substitutes must complete a criminal background check and must be approved by the Board of Education.

Application Process for Certified and Non-certified Positions

The Thomas County School System uses an on-line application system for certified and non-certified positions. This on-line system provides an efficient and accurate communication process for applicants and school officials. The system provides administrators instant access to your application and enables you to update application information easily and as often as necessary. In addition, you are able to view job vacancies immediately after they are posted by the Human Resources Office. When completing the on-line application, you will be asked to furnish information that we feel is necessary to find the best candidate for available positions. The following details the process used within the school system:

1. To view vacancies and/or apply on-line, click here.
2. Click on “Create  Account” to begin the application process.
3. Review system vacancies and apply for specific jobs.
4. Check your email.

If you are applying for a certified position, you should also provide three reference forms, which are available through the on-line application program, and send them to former employers, college professors or others. Have these individuals complete the forms and mail to the Human Resources Office.


When a vacancy exists, administrators view the on-line applications of those interested in available position(s) and conduct interviews at the schools or departments where the vacancies exist. Based on the number of applicants for the available positions, not everyone who applies will be invited to interview. References will be checked before a recommendation is made to the Superintendent. When a candidate has been selected for a position, the administrator will notify the Superintendent. All certified and non-certified candidates must complete a criminal background check and must be approved by the Board of Education.
