Super Region First LEGO League Competition

First Lego League

Thomas County Middle School's Aqua Avengers won several awards at the Super Regionals in Columbus, Georgia held on January 20, 2018. Out of thirty-eight teams, the Aqua Avengers won the "Champions Award" which advances them to state competition at Georgia Gwinnett College in Lawrenceville, Georgia. The team designed a product called the "Pet-a-Pottie" to address contamination in the water system in Tallahassee, Florida. Students suited up as the "Avengers" and presented their unique product to a panel of judges in Columbus, taking 1st Place. Students also built, designed, and programmed a LEGO Mindstorm Robot that took top awards based on a series of performance tasks.

The team is made up of fifth through eighth graders and is led by coaches Kim Simmons and Samantha Sturrup.  The team also brought home team awards for working together as a concise team.  The Aqua Avengers will compete in the state competition on February 3, 2018.
