Meet Dee Gaines

How many years have you been teaching or working in education? I earned my masters in Communication Sciences and Disorders in the spring of 2000 and began working for the Thomas County School System that fall.  I have worked for the Thomas County School System for 13 years as a Speech Language Pathologist, Special Education Teacher, and Parent Involvement Coordinator.

How many of your years have been spent at Garrison-Pilcher? I have worked at Garrison-Pilcher for 6 years.

What grade levels have you taught or worked with? I have had the wonderful opportunity to work at HNH (PK/3-K), GP(1-2), TCMS(5-7), and TCCHS(9-12).

What college did you attend? I received a Bachelor’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from The University of Georgia, a Master’s Degree in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Valdosta State University, and an Education Specialist Degree in Educational Leadership from Valdosta State University.

My best day in the classroom was when....My best day is every day that a child leaves my room feeling confident and happy.

Who or what inspired you to become a teacher or to work in education? I love children, I love to teach, and I really love to see children love learning!  I enjoy working with parents, teachers, and administrators to make the educational experience of each child a fun and successful one.

What profession other than your own would you most like to attempt? I LOVE the Thomas County School System!  I am very eager to be a part of the our school system’s leadership team and serve one of our elementary schools as an administrator.

What do you enjoy doing in your spare time? In my spare time, I play with my 2 little boys.  We love to fish, snorkel, swim, hunt, camp, snow ski…you name it we do it!!!!

What is one thing about you that likely would surprise your students? I don’t think my kids are ever surprised by me.  They know to expect ANYTHING!!!  My life is such an open book. My students know all about my home life and family.  I like for them to know and feel like they are just as much a part of my life as my family.  ALL of my students know that I love them and will do anything for them, now and forever!
