Pathways Educational Program in Moultrie is housed at Vereen School. We serve students from Colquitt and Mitchell counties. Our mission is to support these counties by providing comprehensive special education services and therapeutic support for students with severe emotional and behavioral disorders and students with autism. Our program provides an individualized program that challenges our students behaviorally and academically and prepares them for re-entrance into mainstream education at their respective home schools.
Currently, we have six classrooms consisting of five to ten students. Every classroom is staffed by a certified teacher and at least one support teacher. Classrooms are designed to provide a positive learning environment that challenges each student academically, behaviorally, and socially. Our curriculum is developed from grade level Georgia Performance standards. In addition to an individualized academic curriculum we utilize a social skills curriculum called Student Achievement Model (SAM). SAM is a curriculum for teaching social skills through systematic instruction to students of all ages. It consists of a well-defined set of sixteen basic social behaviors encompassing adult relations, peer relations, school rules, and classroom behaviors. Acquisition and use of age appropriate social skills in a school environment increase the probability of students' successful transition back to their home schools. We also provide the services of two social workers and one interventionists. These services help us provide support to families and assist them in obtaining resources to help them meet the needs of raising a child with emotional andbehavioral challenges. We encourage the participation of our families throughout the year with special activities such as Open house, Thanksgiving luncheon, Winter pageant, Talent shows, and Honors day.
