GHSA Covid 19 Guidelines:

*General Information

  • Groups should be the same individuals (including coaches) for each session to limit risk of exposure. Students or coaches CANNOT change groups for the duration of this guidance.

  • Weight equipment should be cleaned prior to each workout and sanitized between use by each student.

  • Student-athletes are encouraged to bring their masks from home for use in the weight room.

  • Hand sanitizer should be plentiful and readily available.

  • Each student should have his or her own personal water and water bottle. No use of water fountains allowed.

  • Side spots only in weight training, safety bars are preferred.

  • Social distancing should be adhered to always.

Limitations on Gatherings:

  • Workouts must be conducted in “pods” of students with the same groups of students and trainers always working out together. Smaller pods can be utilized for weight training. This ensures a more limited risk of exposure.

  • There must be a minimum distance of 6 feet between each individual as much as possible.

  • Individuals should wash their hands for a minimum of 20 seconds with warm water and soap before touching any surfaces or participating in workouts.

  • Weight equipment must be wiped down thoroughly before and after an individual’s use of equipment.

  • Appropriate clothing/shoes must be worn at all times in the weight room to minimize sweat from transmitting onto equipment/surfaces.

  • Students must be encouraged to shower and wash their workout clothing immediately upon returning home.

Hydration:

  • No water fountains allowed.

  • Athletes should bring their own water bottles.

Grading:

Students must report to workouts with proper gear (t-shirt, shorts (appropriate length), athletic pants, & tennis shoes) inside a small gym bag and line up quietly outside the locker room in a timely manner:  Monday through Friday.  Students will receive 20 points for each day that they dress out & participate.  If a student does not participate for the day, they will lose those full credit points.  Example: If a student participates 2 days in any given week his/her participation grade for the week is 40, 3 days=60, 4 days=80, and 5 days=100.  Each student will be allowed one written excuse from a parent with no penalty.  To avoid being penalized after the first excuse, students are asked to bring an excuse from a doctor.  Also, if students are off task, they will lose half credit for the day.

Mandatory Equipment:

Students are required to dress out/participate every day to receive full credit points. Students will not receive daily participation/effort points on days they are not prepared to workout.  Athletic shoes appropriate for running.  Gym shorts (more than 4” above the knee are considered too short) or athletic pants/warm-ups/sweatpants, compression short tights are not allowed, T-shirt (no tank tops), and sweatshirt for indoor/outdoor activities (must follow school wide dress code).  Please keep these items in a small gym bag.  Last but not least, masks are encouraged to wear in class.

Classroom Expectations:

A weight room has many dangers, and student behavior is the most important part of safety in this class.
