In Sixth grade Visual Arts, students use a range of materials and techniques, from drawing and painting to sculpture and printmaking, while also learning about color theory. Students focus on historical and cultural aspects of art and build their visual vocabulary. It is important to further adolescent artists in the development of their own self-awareness, and personal abilities and talents. Therefore, students learn to create art in order to express emotions and apply their critical thinking and problem solving skills. Students also begin to understand how planning and organization play critical roles in the art-making process. Students complete a portfolio of pieces which are exhibited on the TCMS hallways and media center and at the system's board offices.
