DAR Winners Announced

DAR

 

TCMS students won many awards in The Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Junior American Citizens annual competition.  There were thirty-eight winners from Thomas County Middle School for the Thomasville chapter. Fifteen of those winners took first place and advanced to state competition in January. This year’s theme was “The 50th Anniversary of the Lunar Landing – America’s Great Move Forward in Exploration and Technology.”  Students were able to compete in the following categories: poster, stamp design, photo essay, banner, poem, short story, or community service.

 

From the fifteen students who placed first in the local competition and moved on to state, the following TCMS students placed first in the state competition and moved on to the southeast district competition:

 

5th Grade Poem: Max Mares

5th Grade Poem: Cheyenne Lashley

5th Grade Stamp: Noah Barlow

5th Grade Short Story: Dallas Helton

6th Grade Group Banner: Lydia Glass, Deonna Thomas, Emily Proctor

6th Grade Group Banner: Chloe O’Neal, Madelyn Graham, Abigail Wright, Ella Kate Rice

6th Grade Stamp: Kara Welch

6th Grade Short Story: Nathan Landing

 

The southeast district competition included the thirteen students who placed first in each respective group at the state competition.  First place winners from the southeast district competition also competed at the national level. The following students won at the southeast district competition and went on to win the National DAR Competition, as well.
