Lessons from Thomasville History Center

Thomasville History Center

Students in Mrs. Grim & Ms. Martin's Georgia History classes recently participated in workshops conducted by Amelia Gallo, programs and membership manager of Thomasville History Center. Mrs. Grim's students learned about primary and secondary sources during the workshop. Students worked in groups to examine primary sources related to historical events such as the Civil War, World War II, and Reconstruction. This workshop was designed to introduce students to various forms of primary sources similar to those that they will be using during their Georgia History class throughout the year.

Ms. Martin's classes participated in an American Indian workshop, comparing the differences between historic and pre-historic artifacts during the Paleo, Archaic, Woodland, and Mississippian Periods.  Students also participated in a game of "Chunkey" where students threw a wooden spear to try to get closest to the game stone.
