Taylor Excels at Woodworking

Thomas County Middle School seventh grade student, Jack Taylor, is making a name for himself through his woodworking.  Taylor’s love of the outdoors and learning to whittle sticks at a young age helped turn his hobby into a lucrative business.

Jack’s father, Ashley Taylor, and owner of Taylor Logging, helps by cutting down the trees and taking them to the sawmill to be cut into boards.  Jack then uses a variety of sanders and saws to cut and sand the boards to turn the raw wood into cutting boards, wooden knives, ornaments, and coasters; all made from local longleaf pines.

After the cutting and sanding process is complete, Jack varnishes and stamps the finished product with a custom stamp labeled ‘Jack Taylor Woodworks.’

Taylor says that his favorite part about woodworking is “just being outside and being able to work in the shop.”  His business has been established for over a year and he says that he may be open to adding new products in the future.

You can purchase the finished products through Instagram @Jtwoodworks11, emailing jtwoodworks11@gmail.com, by visiting The Sporting Gallery in downtown Thomasville, or by visiting his booth at the Plantation Wildlife Festival.

Pictured below is Jack’s advertisement for his business, along with contact information for ordering.
