Students in Ms. Lewis’ sixth-grade class recently created models of comets (dirty snowballs), using dry ice, sand, coal, water, and common household materials. Each material modeled those from the early solar system. The hands-on experiment gave students an opportunity to construct explanations, draw conclusions, and make connections based on knowledge acquired about comets.
