2021 Plains Peanut Festival Postcard Contest Winners Announced

Three Thomas County Middle School students were recently chosen as a 2021 Plains Peanut Festival Postcard Contest winner. With 1,986 entries from students across the state, Joshua Layne placed first in fifth-grade, Savannah Smith placed third in fifth-grade, and Keya Patel placed first in sixth-grade.

The yearly contest is open to students in grades K-12 throughout Georgia, with the theme “History in a Nutshell: Plains, Peanuts, and a President.” Postcard designs and messages must include peanuts and either Plains, Georgia, or former President Carter. In the past, students were presented the award certificates and medals by former President Jimmy Carter at the annual Peanut Festival, held in Plains, GA.  However, due to COVID, students received award certificates and medals by mail, and a video is being created to be live-streamed to the schools announcing all winners.

The live-stream video will be used this year through Facebook live to announce all winners.  A specific date has not yet been determined.
