National Junior Honor Society Induction

On Thursday, December 9th, 2021, seventy-five students were inducted into the Thomas County Middle School chapter of the National Junior Honor Society (NJHS). NJHS was established to recognize outstanding middle school students. More than just an honor roll, NJHS serves to honor those students who have demonstrated excellence in the areas of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship.

Charla Floyd, chapter sponsor, opened the ceremony with a welcome to parents and other guests. Student, Mackenzie Smith, read a poem of inspiration and Lance Shaw led the Pledge of Allegiance. Five students lit candles and spoke about the characteristics of scholarship, service, leadership, character, and citizenship. Those students were Sha’leria Walker, Kenley Loper, Aidan Poppell, Lawson Whitfield, and Aniya Nixon. Mrs. Floyd then introduced Clay Stanaland, TCMS principal, who had words of congratulations for the inductees. Meggin Nix, chapter co-sponsor, administered the pledge of membership, and following the pledge, students received certificates from Clay Stanaland, TCMS principal.

The ceremony was held at the Thomas County Board of Education auditorium which has recently been renovated. Superintendent Dr. Lisa Williams closed the program with congratulations, “I want to commend you for all of your time, dedication, and hard work that you have devoted to your studies and in reaching the goals you have set for yourself thus far. You are truly the best of the best. I cannot wait to see your academic excellence continue in your upcoming years in our system and beyond.”

In lieu of the Washington, DC trip usually taken by Thomas County Middle School NJHS, students this year will be offered the opportunity to travel around the state of Georgia on a 5-day Georgia Studies Tour. Tommy Harrison, tour director, shared briefly about the planned trip.
