December Company eighth-graders immersed themselves in "The Outsiders" novel by dressing up as a Greaser or Socs, rivals in the novel. Students designed wanted posters based on characters in the book as well as discussed themes and character stereotypes prevalent during the 1960's.

Students then completed a scavenger hunt that focused on music, political conflicts, and pop culture during the 1960's, the setting for "The Outsiders". Students were then able to watch the movie in order to compare/contrast the novel with the movie.
