    This course will target students’ growth in the areas of reading & writing with the evidence reflecting on the end of the year state exam. The focus of writing will be on narrative, informational, and argumentative writing. Reading strategies, critical thinking skills, and vocabulary building comprise the main elements of reading instructions. Through fiction, nonfiction, and poetry reading, students will practice reading strategies and comprehension skills to prepare them for the Georgia Milestones and beyond.

Through fiction, nonfiction, and poetry reading, students will practice reading strategies and comprehension skills to prepare them for the Georgia Milestones and beyond.  

     

    Course Goals: The overall goal of the course is to increase the literacy and writing ability of students. This will be accomplished by the following:

    • Support students in mastering the Georgia Standards of Excellence ELA Curriculum

    • Thoroughly prepare students for the Georgia Milestones by providing them with enriching assignments for school and home learning. 

    • Include at least one challenging novel to enhance vocabulary within context

    • Include project-based assignments that promote collaboration and critical thinking.

    • Provide students with opportunities to connect text-to-self and text-to-world experiences by participating in presentations 

    • Promote and support parental involvement through consistent updates from the teacher and the student

    • Encourage character growth, school pride, and respect for others through daily journal writings.
